Welcome to our Second Hand Aga Centre
Reconditioned/Refurbished/Converted/Second Hand
Agas with conversion are probably best avoided when buying second hand as the second hand market is depressed at the present time due to the new electric Aga effect combined with fuel costs. This means purpose built agas designed as oil and gas are readily available at relatively cost effective prices at present which should rule out Agas that have been converted from solid fuel. (The second hand Agas we deal with have not been converted.)
This does not however mean that a conversion should be ruled out as a cost effective way to turn an existing solid fuel Aga to oil or gas.
You need to know what it is you are buying. Some second hand Agas are reconditioned appliances made up of a number of diferent Agas. Generally these are not good news. If buying privately quite often this type of Agas will have had oil or gas conversions fitted. This in itself begs the question of what type of conversion and if spares are available and also does the performance match that of a new or purpose built Aga.
The answer in most cases is that it must be a recognized industry conversion for spares to be available not a one off burner ‘lash up’ in our experience the performance is not a match for the purpose built Aga (i.e. designed as oil or gas originally). One more consideration if you are buying a cooker with a conversion with unknown origin is whether it complies with all legal requirements today.
